Act 2, Scene 7 Summary

Beline enters the room with the rest of the guests and is quickly introduced to Mr. Diaforus and his son. Thomas turns to Beline and begins his recited speech, which he has already mistakenly used on Angelique. However, Beline interrupts him by telling her how happy she is to meet him. This flusters Thomas, who continues with his speech and flounders until his father tells him to be quiet.

Argan turns to his daughter and tells her to shake hands with Thomas and agree to marry him. Angelique balks at his order and requests more time for them to become better acquainted. She continues to plead with her father, reasoning that if Thomas is truly a man of honor then he will not want her to enter into their marriage by force. Thomas speaks up saying that her reasoning is false...
