Pan waits outside Ciro's for The Byrds, who have just released their first single. She is wild over the bassist, Chris Hillman, who barely acknowledges her. Undeterred, she finds out where the band members reside in Laurel Canyon, and spends "hours peeking into windows." She finds Chris Hillman's abode and performs somersaults to get the twenty-one-year-old to look at her, but Chris has more than one girlfriend. In her April 26, Pam refers to her obsession with Chris Hillman as "Operation Chris". She knocks on his door with a kitten as a present.
