Summary

The novel is narrated in first-person present by the 16-year-old protagonist, Georgia Avis. The story begins with Georgia on her knees in the storeroom of a mall, about to perform oral sex on a man. However, she remembers running away at 13 because of a fight with her mother. While walking on the deserted mountain road up to the members-only resort called Aspera, Matthew Hayes, the wealthy owner of the resort, had stopped to give Georgia a ride. He told Georgia she was beautiful and said she should come be an “Aspera Girl” when she was older. Georgia’s mom worked at the resort as a maid, and Georgia had always admired the beautiful Aspera Girls.
