Summary

The chapter begins with a brief narration of things found in a battered wooden chest, which is implied to have belonged to Crispin. After this narration, Miguel reflects on the night before Crispin’s death. Miguel had gone to Crispin’s apartment, but there Crispin rudely turned him away. Then Miguel briefly narrates the events of his life after Crispin’s death, revealing that he began working on Crispin’s biography, and that his girlfriend Madison left him because he devoted too much time to investigating Crispin's death.

Nine months after Crispin’s death, Miguel receives an email which upon first glance looks like a spam email.
