Chapters 9 and 10 Summary

In chapter nine, Carley asks Janelle to come to the hospital early Sunday morning rather than going to church. Janelle arrives and Carley reveals she wants Janelle to pretend to be Carley and meet Kyle's friends. Carley knows Kyle's friends will then tell Kyle that she's very pretty. Janelle outright refuses but Carley argues, saying she "never" asks Janelle for a favor and that the one time she does ask, Janelle refuses. Janelle says this is manipulation but Carley says she knows Kyle's friends will call her a freak. Janelle says no one would dare call Carley a freak but Carley continues to argue, eventually telling Janelle she really likes Kyle and pleading for her help.

Just as Janelle seems about to give in, Jon enters, saying he'd been worried when Janelle wasn't at church. Janelle reveals Carley's plan and Jon...
