Point of View

The point of view of the novel is from the perspective of Amanda, a transgendered girl who has fully transitioned. She goes to live with her father in another town. The move is in an effort to start fresh after a violent beating.

Amanda is able to look back on the darker times in her life, including a suicide attempt. Her flashbacks reveal her struggle for her identity and acceptance. Her past has not been easy and when she arrives at her new school, she is slow to trust the acceptance around her.

As she gets to know her new friends, she wants to be able to tell them about her past. While Amanda has struggled to become who she wants to be, she knows that the struggle is also part of her. She wants to be able to live her life fully accepted.
