Chapters 28-29 Summary

Chapter 28 begins with Lucy noticing that Sam isn't in school for two days. She wonders why she is thinking about him so much. She discusses that her dad being home is wonderful, except she can't stop focusing on how sad she'll be when he leaves. On the day of the prom, her dad and Mara come into her room carrying two large packages-the beautiful antique easel Lucy fell in love with and a painting that her mother did for her. Lucy and her dad discuss the painting and he tells her that her mom started it when she got sick. Lucy's dad also tells her that he will be going back to San Francisco for two weeks and then quitting if he is unable to work from New York, bringing Lucy to tears. Emma and Amy insist that Lucy get ready...
