Summary

In Chapter 26, one day Icy goes to Emily’s store in town. On the back patio, she watches as two cats have sex with one another. On another walk, this time nearer to her home, Icy begins to talk out loud to herself. Icy is surprised when someone talks back to her: her old classmate, Peavy Lawson, comes out of the weeds. Icy is startled to see that Peavy has become very handsome in their years since their fourth-grade class together. They have a flirtatious conversation, when Icy learns that he is working at Clitus Stewart’s farm, near to her house. When Icy returns home she fantasizes about having a family with Peavy. She attempts to tell her grandparents about Peavy at dinner, but they cannot understand her, as her mouth is too full.
