Section 27 Summary

Adam begins talking about his mother. He recalls her as always sad. He used to think she wasn't strong but now that the details have come out, he sees how strong she really was. He also sees that it was not sadness but fear. She was afraid of the things that could happen - the Never Knows - not knowing what was going to happen. She and Adam talked, and she told him how proud she was of his father. She told him how she and his father tried to make the best of the situation, drilling the new identity until they had it routine. Mr. Grey made all the rules but what mattered was they were still together as a family. She was afraid because she knew there were no guarantees.
