Chapter 1: Nut Bush Summary and Analysis

Anna Mae Bullock, later to be known as Tina Turner, is born in the small farming community of Nut Bush, TN. The region is sparsely populated with poor farmers but rich with beautiful foliage. Anna Mae is the younger daughter of Floyd Richard Bullock (who goes by Richard) and his wife Zelma. Tina is born with light brown skin, reddish hair and the bone structure inherited from her mother's Indian heritage. Their other child is a daughter, Alline, who is three years older than Tina.
