Summary

In Chapter 53, Agent Paddle Hands interrogated Cristian again. During the meeting, he asked if Dan gave the narrator anymore “articles about Bruce Springsteen” (182). Cristian knew he had never mentioned the name of the artist in the article and was unsure how the agent had that information. In the Official Report that follows, the agent details that Cristian, code name Oscar, is no longer of use.

When Cristian returned home in Chapter 54, Mrs. Drucan was dead, and the Bruce Springsteen article was gone. In the following chapter, Cristian heard reports of a protest in Timisoara. In Chapter 56 and 57, the narrator was preoccupied with thoughts of revolution and decided to talk to Luca, the only other student who would acknowledge the news. Later, Starfish told Cristiano that he had papers written in English that would be of interest to him.
