Summary

Chapter 15 opens with a flashback to when Adan is 10 years old. He lives with Auntie Preta who dotes on him and is never harsh. Auntie Preta works for Dr. Thompson, the kind neighborhood doctor. Dr. Thompson has a young daughter named Janey. Auntie Preta never lets Adan buy snack-boxes from the local junk food restaurant. One day, Adan takes a piece of her chicken out of Janey’s snack-box while they are all in the car together. Janey cries out. Auntie Preta is furious and snatches the chicken out of Adan’s hand. When they get home, Auntie Preta beats him for the first time. Auntie Preta’s lover, John, takes Adan on as his apprentice. He teaches Adan how to break into cars and how to steal.
