Summary

In Chapter Twenty-eight, at the schoolhouse, Gamache lets Jerome get as far as typing in the code before he stops him. He has realized they are too tired to do the work that night. Even Nichol is too tired to argue. The next morning, Gamache is more well rested and knows he’s made the right choice. Later, visiting with Myrna, Gamache asks her about any Christmas gift Constance might have given her. They find one under the tree. The card indicates the gift holds the key to Constance’s home.

In Chapter Twenty-nine, Myrna finds a used, child-sized tuque inside the package. She and Gamache try to figure out the story behind the hat. Gamache decides to watch the film again. They realize the tuque that Myrna was given was the same one that the quints mother threw off camera in the film...
