Act 2 Part 1 Summary

Amelia, Magdalena, Martirio and Angustias sit sewing with Poncia and talking about Adela. Adela seems unwell, but her unhappiness is no different from what any of them are suffering. Angustias, however, brags about how she'll soon be married to Pepe and free. Poncia reveals that she was up at one thirty that morning and saw Pepe talking with Angustias at her window, adding that she actually heard him leave around four. Angustias says she must have been mistaken. Poncia asks her how Pepe proposed, and Angustias says that it was all very casual, adding that she's embarrassed by these kinds of conversations. Poncia tells how her husband came to her window and proposed by saying that he wanted to touch her. Amelia runs to the door to make sure Bernarda isn't coming.
