Betrayal

“Sweat” is a story about the consequences of marital betrayal and the ways that people who have been cheated on try to wrest control back to their lives. Main character Lotrece has been dealing with her husband’s infidelity for a long time now as he cycles from person to person even after she has found out about it. It is unclear if this existed in Lotrece before this started happening, but she feels a great deal of spite and a desire to commit violence both against her husband and his mistresses as a result. This leads her to go so far as to poison one of his mistresses’ cats, seemingly killing the cat in secret with the hope that the mistress will feel pain and bring it up to him.
