London

London is symbolic of avoidance. The narrator travels to this city 10 months following her mother's death. At the novel's start, she says that she has made this trip as a way to clarify her regard for her life. However, as an increasing number of sights and scenes around the city remind her of her mother, the reader learns that the narrator has come to this place as a way to escape her sorrow: an experience that the place ultimately fails to eradicate for her.

London Eye
