Summary

Chapter 21 is set in Baltimore in 2002 and focuses on Darren’s recovery. He is attending Group, and he is attempting to work through the Steps program, which will hopefully lead to recovery. The first three steps are not difficult for Darren, but he struggles with the fourth step. Last time he was rehab, a couple years ago, he had made it all the way to the eighth step, making amends.

Arnold Wu was Darren’s first lab partner in Organic Chemistry at Johns Hopkins. Darren and Arnold working together for the first few weeks, performing experiments in lab and writing the reports on Adderall during all-nighters. Then, Darren stopped going to class or stopped going to class sober. He still is not sure which, but Arnold Wu helped him regardless. Darren calls Arnold to make amends, and he calls his next lab partner...
