Chapter 7, Skull, Lauren Bacall, Library Summary

The Narrator takes a taxi home, sleeps, gets up, and opens the box from the Professor. It contains a small horse-like skull. He then watches television, telephones in to check his work schedule, and goes shopping. He eats lunch and then stops by the library, where he checks out a few books on animal skeletons and has a prolonged and friendly discussion with the librarian. He then returns home and watches more television. Someone arrives at the door claiming to be a safety inspector from the gas company. He lets the inspector in but is suspicious and catches the inspector attempting to steal the skull. The inspector explains that he is a real safety inspector but was threatened with harm and offered a huge reward if he would steal the skull. The narrator ejects the...
