Gwendy Peterson

Gwendy Peterson is the central character. Gwendy is a successful congresswoman who is tempted to use magic selfishly when the button box reappears in her life with no explanation. Gwendy works under the leadership of a president she believes is incompetent. She and her constituents in congress fear that he will involve the country in a war with North Korea. At one point Gwendy is tempted to use the red button on the box to kill the president. She is stopped only because a friend calls to check on her because she sensed Gwendy was in trouble. Another time, Gwendy considers killing the president, she stops herself by going out for a run. She warns herself that she needs to stop considering the possibility of killing the president because the box can hear and pick up on her thoughts.
