Summary

Caroline and M's relationship ended in Enghave Park. Sitting on a bench, she watched "him limp off in his black half-length coat," and felt angry (1). He seemed inhuman, though she was the one acting cruelly. He had been in an accident a year ago. Ever since, she was unable to stop herself from destroying things.

Despite how bad things are, they decide to spend Christmas together, particularly for their son’s sake. M gives her "two bottles of red wine" and a short story collection (1). Caroline remembers M reading her one of these stories at the start of their relationship. Because he lost so much of his memory in the accident, he no longer remembers this happening.
