"Pursuit as Happiness" cont'd. The next morning, with the Roman's brother as guide, the author, M'Cola and Garrick set out in search of sable. Eventually the party finds a full herd, and the author carefully plans to shoot what looks like a big bull. Their plans are ruined by the over-eager and careless Garrick, who spooks the animals before the author can get in a careful shot. The author, desperate for a kill, fires and brings down the bull. This causes the herd to stampede, and the author is shocked to see an even bigger bull in the group. In eager desperation, he wounds the bull, but doesn't bring him down.
