Summary

A female narrator describes her breakup with a man whom she referred to only as “R.” They’d dated two years and R felt he had a secret personality he couldn’t share with her. As a result of their breakup, the narrator stopped going out and even refused to let anyone come to see her. It was only after she walked for nearly seven hours after a rainstorm that she felt she’d rid herself of her something. The narrator speaks to a person describing how she’d been given a clean t-shirt and had that person’s blood washed from her hands.
