Summary

Grace is woken up by Colly, who will not stop talking and singing. He tells her she has to get up, but then the perspective shifts. Grace sees Colly getting up and looking out the window -- "It is Colly who mutters, 'This is no way to live.' It is Colly who starts laughing ... " (285). The rest of the chapter is then told from Colly's point of view. Colly sees a crow out the window and tries to show Grace, but she will not get up. He goes out side and tries repeatedly to down the crow with a rock, but cannot. He becomes convinced that the crow is the pooka, and follows it down unfamiliar paths. He keeps singing a song to it, referring to it as "Joe Crow," but realizes that he is actually crying (288). He convinces himself instead that he...
