Chapters 1 through 6 Summary

Will Klein says that three days before his mother's death, she tells him that Will's brother Ken is still alive. Four days after his mother's statement, Will is surrounded by family at his mother's funeral. He is supported in this time of emotional need by his girlfriend. Will believes her name to be Sheila Rogers but her name is actually Nora Spring. Will's father is very angry because few of the neighbors and friends show up for the funeral. Will finally goes for a walk and heads up Downing Place and along the route Will and Ken had taken to Burnet Hill Elementary School. He arrives at 97 Coddington Terrace and remembers the events there.
