“Gods in the Streets” is a speculative poem which draws from Greek mythology. It opens with an epigraph: "Crowding for warmth with other unknown divinities in an underpass at night." —Charles Simic's "Tattooed City." This poem was published shortly after Simic’s death. It’s told through the eyes of a first-person narrator who encounters one of these gods, and juxtaposes the grandeur of classical myth with the grittiness of a modern-day city.
