Summary

Chapter XI starts with Anaxandra and the Trojans still riding through rough seas until they reach a port city called Sidon. Anaxandra is afraid that she is going to be found out here, and attempts to hide her eyes as she disembarks. Paris comes over and expresses disappointment to Zanthus that the children survived; apparently, Paris had commanded him to “see that the children of Menelaus died” (151). Anaxandra is shocked by the fact that Zanthus would protect them, and chalks it up to a messenger from her goddess. Later, she tries to come up with what she can tell Helen to hopefully spare her life. When Helen learns, Paris and Zanthus convince her to let Anaxandra stay as a slave to take care of Pleisthenes. Helen relents only on the condition that Anaxandra shave her red hair. Aethra reassures her while shaving her...
