Point of View
This novel is told from the point of view of Kit, the main character of the novel. Kit is a character with whom a good many people can relate because she works hard to achieve her dreams in life. Kit is the daughter of a single mother and an irresponsible father. Kit knows that in order to get out of Lanister, the dead-end town where she lives, she will have to get a scholarship to attend college. Kit’s place in life and her need to achieve puts her in a position where she is willing to do whatever it takes, including sullying Diane’s reputation, in order to get what she believes she deserves.
Kit’s first-person telling of the story allows the reader to feel substantial sympathy for Kit and to become emotionally invested in her. As the story progresses and Kit learns...
