How were Kobabe's early experiences at school different from eir home life? How did these differences make em feel?

The reader should recall that gender roles and expectations were very relaxed in Kobabe's family home, and therefore e was surprised by how e was treated as someone assigned female at birth by other children when e started school. E depicts two incidents reflecting this — one in which e was excluded from playing in a clubhouse with Galen and some other boys and another in which e was asked by a teacher to put eir shirt back on at the beach. Both incidents left Kobabe feeling confused, because even at a young age, e did not identify as female.
