Summary

In Chapter 4, in April of 1982, David called Lily to say he wanted to visit for Easter. He would be bringing his friend, Greta. Because the family never "made much fuss over Easter" and because David had never brought a woman home, Lily was surprised (108). David taught high school drama "just outside Philadelphia," and was relatively settled (109). However, he made little effort to spend time with his family. When Lily told her family the news, they were surprised, too.

The family made plans for Easter. Alice and Kevin, Lily and Morris, and Mercy and Robin were unsure what to expect. The sisters, their parents, husbands, and children gathered together before David arrived. When he showed up, the family was immediately shocked to see that he and Greta had a little girl, Emily, with them. Greta was older than David and Emily was her daughter...
