Summary

Chapter 6 begins with the main character racing to get the mail, just like earlier, but Mr. Kinsella finds a letter potentially addressed from her mother, so they take it to Mrs. Kinsella to read it. News has come from the main character’s home that she has a new baby brother, and that it is almost time for her to return back to their house. The main character immediately has to try not to cry, accustomed as she has grown to living with the Kinsellas. Mrs. Kinsella lets her pick a pattern that she will then knit into a jumper for her.

Chapter 7 then begins with the main character reflecting on her time at the Kinsellas’, watching Mr. Kinsella milk the cows and feed the calves. Shortly after, a man the main character remembers from cards at the Kinsellas’ house comes and says...
