Summary

At the start of Chapter 16, Janie and her father go on a long hike through the woods. They get a bit lost on the way back, and do not return to the house until late in the evening, where they find Janie’s mother angry at both of them for being gone for so long. Janie’s mother reports that Hannah will be arriving to visit in two weeks. Janie’s father makes preparations for the family to attend an upcoming firefly festival, but Janie’s mother believes that attending the festival is a bad idea, as it will cause him to become even more sick.

Hannah arrives in Korea at the start of Chapter 17, and there is immediate tension between herself and Janie. Their distant cousins come to visit Hannah, who is the only member of the family who does not speak...
