It’s told from the perspective of Poison Ivy / Pamela Isley, a character from DC Comics who first appeared in 1966. Gailey uses Poison Ivy’s driving motives and backstory to highlight themes around the state of the world today. The poem first appeared in Barrelhouse Online in 2013, then was later included in Hall’s full-length collection Field Guide to the End of the World in 2016.
