Chapter 5: Lost Ann Summary

Greta and her friends are going to go berry picking but the fog has rolled in and the other girls don't want to go into the forest because it will be damp and wet. Greta walks over to Blue Cove and meets Retha who has a berry-picking pail for each of them. Retha's mother gives them some home-made bread to bring with them. They go to the spruce forest and start to fill their pails. They take a break to eat their bread. Greta stretches out on a long rock, turns and looks right into the face of another girl, a little older than she and Retha. When Retha sees her, she jumps up and yells at the girl, "Ann, Ann!"
