Book III Summary and Analysis

In chapter twenty, Josie arrived during a session and broke two of Lynn's ribs as Lynn was trying to restrain her. Lynn enlisted the help of her husband, a teacher named Gordon, to be with her during sessions to help if things got violent. Renee, who had met Gordon at a housewarming she and Steve held, was angry because she felt Gordon liked her as the in-control hostess and would ridicule her when he saw the actions of some of the other personalities. Gordon soon became more involved, joining in the therapy sessions. He met Jo, and it was while he was talking to her about the possibility of multiple personalities that he compared the group to a flock of birds, each with an individual thought process that sometimes made it appear that there was only chaos before turning...
