Summary

Toby calls Rachel’s personal assistant, but the assistant gives no information about Rachel and quickly hangs up. It appears to Toby that the assistant is acting on orders from Rachel to not communicate with Toby. Toby recalls a time when a colleague began a private medical research company and offered Toby a job there. The job was to be very lucrative, but Toby turned down the offer because he liked working with patients. Rachel was deeply angry at Toby for turning down the offer, and she called him unambitious. Toby thinks about how materialistic and money-hungry Rachel always seemed to be. Rachel makes 15 times as much money as Toby.
