Summary

In the “Narrative of Lady Dittisham,” Elsa claimed that she and Amyas fell in love with one another the first time they met. She insisted that he paint her picture and he eventually agreed. He warned her that he was married and that he was very fond of his wife. Elsa spent ten days at Alderbury while Amyas tried to paint her. After those ten days he sent her away. Ten days after he sent her away, Amyas came to Elsa’s house and told her that he could not keep himself away from her. He asked Elsa to come back so that he could paint her, as he was itching to do.
