Fish Girl

Fish Girl is the protagonist of the novel. The narration in the text boxes is from Fish Girl’s first-person point of view. Fish Girl is a mermaid who lives in an aquarium, Ocean Wonders, as an exhibit. She was raised by Neptune, and throughout the novel, she begins to explore the human world outside of her water tank.

Fish Girl has several roles in this novel, the most fundamental of which is to explore themes of identity and mystery. Throughout the novel, Fish Girl struggles to come to terms with where she belongs. She loves her aquatic life because of her fish friends, namely Octopus, and she feels indebted to Neptune because she believes that he saved her life.
