John Vaillant

John Vaillant is the author of Fire Weather: On the Front Lines of a Burning World, a work of nonfiction. He is Canadian-American and a National Book Award finalist. Vaillant's investigative journalism is exhaustively researched and detailed. His other nonfiction works, The Golden Spruce and The Tiger, were national bestsellers. He won the coveted Windham-Campbell prize for nonfiction, a global award. He has also written one work of fiction called The Jaguar's Children. Vaillant works and writes in Vancouver.

Wayne McGrath

Wayne McGrath grew up poor in Labrador. He came to Fort McMurray for the oil industry work. He had done well for himself and had a shop full of expensive toys including a prized Harley-Davidson and a Cutlass. When wildfire came to Fort McMurray, he simply refused to evacuate.
