Summary

In pages 65 - 131, Lillian begins taking photos of children during her pregnancy. One day Deb hears a lot of noise from Lillian's room. Rushing over, she finds Lillian arguing with her father. After hearing about the baby, he demands Lillian return to Ohio and give it up for adoption. Lillian refuses. He insists her life is unfit for a child, and says he does not know who she is anymore.

Lillian starts taking more self-portraits to track her pregnancy, which she collects into her only album. While meditating on the 18 weeks photo, Samantha wonders why her mother decided not to abort her, though she knows Lillian loved her. When Lillian's job disapproves of her pregnant body at work, Deb finds her a job at John Bosco's Barrow Street Books. Through the bookstore, Lillian meets Michael Stromlin from the Times.
