Summary

In Chapter 26, Ern wakes up naked in a guesthouse room under blankets, his hand in pain. Katherine gives Ern Oxycodone and Ern wonders why Katherine has the drug. Ern asks about Michael, but Marcelo says Crawford will not let him in to see Michael. Ern asks Marcelo about Robert’s involvement with the Sabers. Ern looks at the Rolex Marcelo wears and Marcelo tells Ern about how Rolexes are marketed as an item to be passed down in a family. Marcelo explains that he has been the “caretaker” (214) of the Rolex since Jeremy died. Ern thinks about Marcelo being “a rich man revering his own possessions, justifying the pursuit of his dead friend’s widow as noble” (214). Marcelo and Ern continue talking and Marcelo finally relents that Robert witnessed the murder of a child and that was why Robert was killed. Marcelo explains...
