Summary

In "My Life Is an Open Book," divorcée, Claire, moves into "the Sanchez Place" with her four children (158). The narrator says that she watches Claire with her binoculars. She describes everything Claire does. She watches the start of Claire's relationship with Mike Casey. Casey is infamous in the community. One day he steals a "pink marble angel from the cemetery" for Claire (160). The narrator often considers calling the cops on Claire.

Once Casey joins the family, everything changes. Claire never used to do anything, but starts going out once Casey is around. Then one day, Claire and her youngest baby, Joel, go missing. The community is frantic, believing Casey killed them.
