Summary

At the beginning of Chapter 21, the narrator questions whether Mustafa knows of his relationship with Zuhal, but decides that he does not because he would kill him if he did. Once he arrives at home, he receives a phone call from Kamile Hanim, who says she will come by to drop off more of the sweets she made. Hamiyet leaves and Kamile arrives and tells the narrator of the old owner of the house, Sabit Bey, whose son drowned in the ocean. Kamile reveals she saw Zuhal and the narrator in the market, and the two begin a flirtatious interchange culminating in them sleeping together. She leaves, and the narrator realizes he’s sleeping with the women of two of the most powerful men in town. He then goes into town to drink raki alone.
