Summary

Chapter 5 is titled “Petey's Big Escape.” A guard is looking at a news story about the robbery that includes the photo Sarah took. He recognizes Petey and rushes to a jail cell where Petey is standing. The guard says he is “gonna put you in jail” (62) , but Petey reminds the guard that he is in jail. Petey says he has not yet escaped today, but the guard says he is going to catch Petey and put him back. Petey knows that someone is impersonating him and knows he has to get out of jail to figure out who it is. He uses art supplies to make a life-sized image of himself, then places it on the floor with a bulletin board on top of it as if he has been flattened. The guard begins to cry over the Flat Petey...
