Summary

On Monday morning, Arthur Kahn (the production manager at DigiCom’s Malaysia plant), sent Tom Sanders a fax at home informing him that the production lines were running only at 29 percent. Kahn congratulated Sanders in advance on his promotion.

Because Sanders’ wife, Susan, asked him to help get their children ready, Sanders, a division manager at DigiCom, was late to work. It was a milestone week because Conley-White was merging with DigiCom. It was believed that the merger would make everyone rich.

Sanders heard the rumor from his friend Dave Benedict during the ferry ride to Seattle that Robert “Bob” Garvin, President of DigiCom, was going to put a woman in the position of vice president.

Sanders called Kahn from the ferry. The plant in Malaysia had been opened about a year prior to produce small, standalone multimedia players called Twinkle drives...
