This poem takes place within the classic confines of recognizable fairy tales such as Cinderella, Bluebeard, Diamonds and Toads, and Little Red Riding Hood. The poet borrows motifs from these stories and creates empathy for their characters. Social constraints from Perrault’s time are referenced, particularly the attitudes towards women and women’s beauty. By using classic fairy tales as a framing device, the poet is able to present their feminist ideals in a new way.
