Summary

In Chapter 28, Manfred goes to the town of Davy in order to talk to the sheriff as he promised to do. When he gets there, he sees Officer Gomez at the desk and he is nice to her but she is rude to him. The sheriff sees how she is treating Manfred and reprimands her. Manfred explains that she had come to Midnight when they had a problem in the past, she was rude to everyone then as well. He had not told the sheriff about the incident because he did not know whether he was going to have to deal with her again. The sheriff apologizes. Then they talk about Rachel and the cause of her death. Manfred is off the hook about her death, but it is still his word against Lewis’ regarding the theft of the jewelry. Then the sheriff...
