Summary

Back in 1896, Taizo allowed himself to be taunted into swimming in the Asahi River. Taizo did not want his brother, Jiro, to think he was afraid. Taizo got so cold that he got pneumonia. While Jiro apologized, he asked Taizo not to tell their parents whose decision it was. Meanwhile, the Watanabes arrive at Jiro and his wife, Nishi’s large home. Jiro’s son Akira, and his wife, Tamiko, are there with their children. The house is a mixture of both American and Japanese culture. They have many expensive appliances. Jiro shows Taizo the fields, and when Taizo asks why none of the crops have been harvested, Taizo tells him that it is because he cannot afford to hire people to harvest the crops. He has invited Taizo there so that both Taizo and his family can help with the harvesting...
