Chapter 5 Summary

With the decision to stay and see to Emerson's recovery, Amelia gives Michael orders that they will remain in Amarna for approximately one week. Amelia immediately turns to Emerson's pavement but in typical Amelia style, chooses to improve his concoction of tapioca and water by adding bismuth to it. As Amelia preserves the pavement, Evelyn uses her artistic talent to create a color copy with such skill that all in the camp are amazed. In the days before color photography, a true artist is a welcome addition to an excavation. By the end of the second day, Evelyn forcibly removes Amelia from the painting.
