Chapter 5 Summary

Two days before the ball, Olympia falls ill with a fever and flu-like symptoms. On the Sunday, Max also is ill with the chicken pox. Margaret is off for the week and the work is piling up at the office. Olympia's fever eases by Sunday night but Max is still sick. Charlie will be home on Tuesday and the girls on Wednesday. They will be able to help with Max then. Until then Olympia has to manage with a sitter. Ginny calls and Olympia finds that she is sick with bronchitis. She has final exams on Monday and if she has to take any make-up exams, it will have to be on Friday. That means she will be late coming home. She is worried about the ball. Her mother tells her to go to the infirmary for antibiotics before it turns into something...
