Summary

The spring of Willa’s junior year of collect, her boyfriend Derek asks her to fly with him and meet her family. Willa has never flown before and he pays for the tickets. Derek is the senior class president, captain of the tennis team, and liked by everyone. They attend Kinney College in northern Illinois and Willa usually takes a bus home on breaks. They split off from Derek’s friends at the airport and Derek helps Willa navigate the airport. She tells him to be formal with her parents, as she knows they will be offended if he uses their first names. Her practices asking to marry Willa and tells her that he is in love with her. While Willa is surprised, she has dreamed of being his wife. He wants to marry her in June and move with her to California...
